I recently appeared on my local ITV news as they were doing a report on how type 2 diabetes can be cured through diet and exercise. When I talk to health professionals about what I have done, they say 'yes, that's great - but you have only put your diabetes into remission. You can't cure diabetes.' And I bowed to their superior knowledge and told everyone that I have put my diabetes into remission.
But I have been thinking about this. I have actually cured my diabetes. If a doctor who knew nothing of my history was to do a health check on me, he would conclude that I did not have diabetes. I do not have diabetes. So, yes, I have cured it. OK, if I was to return to my old unhealthy lifestyle, my diabetes almost certainly would return. But that applies to a large chunk of the population. Diabetes is endemic due to people's unhealthy lifestyles.
So I want to say it out loud and proud: I have cured my diabetes - and so can you!
